I made a promise to my dad I would become champion of the world.

I grew up in Nice in the south of France and from an early age fighting has been in my blood.

As a child I always enjoyed martial arts, and karate was my first introduction into the world of fighting.

I started this at the age of seven and it became my life. A lot of my friends did karate so it was great training and being around them.

In school the boys always used to fight and I would love joining in with them, using my karate skills as we fought.

Things changed a little when I went to college and I discovered snowboarding. I really enjoyed that and spent more time on a board than I did training – but I was always going to come back to fighting.

The hardest thing for me in my life happened four years ago, when I lost my father.

It was an incredibly tough time for me and my family. But you have to get through those dark days. A year and a half after that I met my new coach, who is now my finance, and my life changed.

Now I am more determined than ever to go as far as possible in my fight career.

I am where I am today because of my father. He was a wrestler, and he was the one who got me into karate and a kid, and then a little later into MMA.

When he trained I would always watch him and try to learn – even though he is no longer with me, he was, and always will be my inspiration.
